MANCHESTER, England, and BEAVERTON, Ore. — March 26, 2010 — Virtensys™, Ltd, a leader in next-generation I/O solutions for data centers, today announced that the Virtensys VIO-4000 I/O virtualization switches won the Government Computer News (GCN) Best of FOSE Awards for 2010 in the Networking Equipment category. This awards program recognizes the outstanding and innovative IT products for government that were exhibited during FOSE 2010, which is staged by the 1105 Government Information Group, publisher of GCN.
More than 65 companies submitted a total of nearly 100 new products for consideration during this year's competition, and only 15 companies were recognized across a broad range of categories. GCN editors and technology analysts reviewed the new products during FOSE show hours and chose the winners based on four criteria: innovation, usability/applicability to government, relative performance based on specifications and value. This award follows the recognition that the company received last week as a "Hot Technologies and Solutions" winner at the Technosium Executive Alliance Forum in San Francisco.
"We are honored to be the recipients of the FOSE award, because it shows the immediate value that our switches bring to IT end users, especially in the government sector," said Ahmet Houssein, president and CEO at Virtensys. "With our solutions, users can deploy I/O virtualization in a non-disruptive way to simplify their data centers and dramatically reduce costs, power consumption, and management complexity."
Earlier this year, Virtensys announced a partnership agreement with Promark Technology to distribute its I/O virtualization solutions to government resellers.
About Virtensys IO Virtualization Switches
The VIO-4000 switches consolidate and share server I/O resources. The switches connect to servers via the native PCI Express interconnect and eliminate network and storage cable, as well as access layer switches from the racks. This substantially reduces I/O power consumption, capital equipment costs, number of cables, server management complexity, and operational expenses by more than 60 percent.
The Virtensys switches manage the entire I/O infrastructure as a single entity, enabling servers to be wired once and I/O resources to be dynamically allocated and modified without any physical reconfiguration. The VIO-4000 series are the industry's only I/O virtualization switches that are deployed without any modification to the existing servers or networks in the data center, and support all the major networking and storage connectivity, including Ethernet, Fibre Channel, FCoE, iSCSI and SAS/SATA. The switches deliver the industry's best server I/O price/performance and lowest energy consumption for accessing network and storage infrastructures through traditional or converged networks.
